Mirko Schwanitz

Executive director Mirko Schwanitz studied Journalism at Leipzig University and has been working as a correspondent for the broadcasting station ARD, Austrian broadcasts and Swiss radio station SRF in the Caucasus, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe regions. Similar to Rupter Neudeck and his organization „Cap Anamur“, Mirko Schwanitz is known for his early involvement in non-governmental organizations in countries such as Romania, Armenia and especially Bulgaria.

He gained a local and national reputation as a director and strategic head of the NGO „Verein Zur Förderung Bulgarischer Kinderheime“. Under his leadership, the most modern orphanage home in Bulgaria was built along with the implementation of new forms of pedagogy. He developed numerous educational projects for adolescents coming from disadvantaged backgrounds and low-income families. The city of Plovdiv honoured his work by awarding him with the highest possible recognition called the Kugdulu price. Since then, he advises non-governmental organizations and communities in South-East Europe that develop social enterprises within the community. He is also a board member at the association of German-Bulgarian humanitarian agencies.
